I will say that the harping on the home recorded song is really lovely, then they ruined it with the silly keyboard. I will also say that anyone that thinks that this "Rainbowarriors" is good is a fucking idiot, and their judgment is not to be trusted.

I agree, Darger is pretty brilliant. He offered up a whole new way of looking at what is art in my mind. Because he never intended for it to be viewed by anyone but himself, it makes me feel lucky that it was discovered after his death. It almost seems random that it was discovered, which makes it even more special.

Faiz, is there anywhere in Chicago that currently has any of his artwork? I've never been lucky enough to view any of it in real life, just on the doc about him and what I've seen on the internet.

I'm not saying the use of the toy keyboard in it is brilliant, but if there were no kazoos or toy keyboard in it, it would be just lovely but boring harping. They're not revolutionary, in the sense that toys have been used in music before (Swell Maps' "Tokyo Airport" features hundreds of wind up toys if I recall correctly), but it does give their sound a different dimension. One that appeals to some people and apparently drives other people absolutely up the wall.

I'm not pro-CocoRosie, but some of you are so vehemently anti-CocoRosie that you've lost all sense of objectivity.

...and as for Darger, yes, he is amazing. Art Brut and Outsider Art (as well as music) are kind of an unexplored goldmine of ideas and perspectives. Another painter from that classification, whose work I really enjoy is August Natterer. But really, a conversation on that should probably have it's own thread, which probably already exists somewhere waiting to be kerbled.

Yes, there is a Darger thread. The only reason he was brought up is because I labeled CoCorosie pseudo-outsider music.

The Fall used kazoos a lot. The Fall are much better than Cocorosie, to an almost unmeasureable degree.
