I'm looking for a way to add a bit distortion to my voice on stage. The idea is the more I shout the more the sound becomes grungy. Friends told me to use a harmonica microphone. What do you think about ? There are 2 models, a honer and a sure... Do you have an experience with them ?

I've read of people commonly using CB radio mics for this purpose. Certainly far cheaper than a green bullet or whatever, although you'd need to re-wire it.

Ebay usually has a plentiful supply for around a fiver.

Another cheaper option would be one of the huge number of soviet public address mics (often listed as oktava) available on ebay for cheap. I have one and it does pretty much what you're looking for. As a bonus, you can imagine who bellowed 'Work faster for our greater good, comrades' into it on an hour basis...

Are there no larsen problems and enough gain in live with this solutions ? I ever bought a Digitech Vocal 300 but it is a shitty solution... The megaphone is great in terms of sound but it is impossible to play guitar in the same time

I played with a megaphone for a while, with the microphone attached to one of those harmonica neck braces. The thing I just strapped on my shoulder.

I worked pretty good and I looked supercool.

I had a friend who used one of the bullet mics for a while. it sounded really thin. it wasn't like a normal sounding vocal mic that got more distorted the higher the signal.

Use any cheap dynamic that comes with a 1/4 inch then go into a Ibanez Lo Fi pedal. You can also use any flavor of overdrive or distortion but that is what I like. You can also get one of the presonis tube pres and put a ratty tube in.

You know those CAD microphones? The little dynamic mics (GXL 1200 I believe)? If you want to get your voice naturally distorted when you up the intensity, they do the job, or so I've found. They're really small in size, but they carry themselves well. Pretty much useless in other applications though. Can be had VERY cheap.

It is usable on stage ? For a cibie mic, do you plug it with a DI box ?

I've seen it used on stage...there is a bit of a power drop, but not very noticeable. It requires some sort of power source, which may be a problem in some circles. And yes, when I say it used there was a DI box involved.
