Cocorosie: What s the big deal?

glad you like it, sleepkid. Spires used to be this crazy band called Scumkid years ago. it reminded me of the shaggs (and actually 'worked' in the same way) but they've really grown into something much more fascinating.

they have a couple records out on Secret Eye (from RI, run by the as220 dude). there are some more song samples there. if you use the srtchfuncthch, I think I posted a link to a live show of theirs somewhere in the general disc. sect.

and yes, bob, my hissing fit will be there for all the ages.

You are out of your damn mind. I love shit like that. CocoRosie are about as not-that as I could manufacture in a lab with special gear.

if you start manufacturing cocorosies over there I will be outside each and every morning with my money in my hand

no way. you don't know what you're talking about. e.g:
Spires that in the Sunset Rise does exactly this and its spooky and exciting and confounding. I have seen several mind-blowing shows. and they're a wonderful family of oddball women. it's got nothing to do with it. I think the cocorosie stuff that I've heard is just plain bad.

please, reccommend a good song. just one.

Having read this thread a few days ago, Spires that in the Sunset Rise came on my iPod and I thought to myself - here's an example of how weird and wonderful 'out there' music is done really well. I only wish I'd got to see them when I had the chance.

I can't help but view Cocorosie in that same way that I often think about Chicks on Speed - having some hyperreal sense of their own worth as some kind of avant-garde outfit. This same horseshit done by men would be precisely the same horseshit, only done by men. Although I guess all music is performance art, when the artist starts self-consciously producing Performance Art it's generally not going to work incredibly well.

Their website is also incredibly annoying. A horrendously large flash file sits there loading, and then subsequent links have to load up! To me this is a double insult. I am being made to WAIT to have my ears and eyes offended by pixelcack and speakernasties.

Must try not quite so hard.
