Nels is a mindblow. Totally professional technique filtered through a taste for skewed noisemongering. Radical structures of invigorating sound-blossoms. Gentle lullabye tracks surrounded by blasting caps of pure demolition. Destroy All Nels Cline sums it up: self-destruction as a musical mode, obliterating the ego and spewing its tiny pieces out of a tube amp.

Yeah... When I lived in califor-nigh-ay I saw Nels several times. He is amazing.

Very timely... I just dug out a lot of Nels Cline stuff. I like Chest a lot.

The only thing is sometimes he can get a bit droney and boring.

"Destroy All Nels Cline" is one of the greatest records ever. I have yet to hear anything he is involved in be anything less then mindblowingly good.

That he can more than halfway pull this off is incredible.

There a few guitar players who occasionally do things that make you go "WTF! Did he just do that? With one guitar and two hands?" Nels Cline has lot more of these moments than most.

Nels Cline is the sort of musician who keeps blazing paths into wild new territories of sonic experimentation. It's as though Wayne Kramer were channeling the spirit of Eric Dolphy's flute solos and blasting it out of Marshall tube amps.

I caught a little of Wilco on Sound Opinions this weekend. They asked Nels what made him want to join the band and he said something to the effect of "I needed a job/I needed the money."

Not crap for his honesty alone.

I'm listening to the Nels Cline Singers' new CD, Draw Breath, for the second time now. It has some fine moments, namely the first track and maybe the fourth and seventh. Heavy on the "interesting guitar work" light on the uninspiring jazz wankery.

Also, maybe you have something to say about that other Nels project, Damsel, whose threaddied so very embarrasingly quickly. Maybe you could make something up? Say it was interesting, or it had "some good parts", you don't neccessarily have to commit to anything declaritive.
