Don't ask me why it's taken this long to get around to buying/listening to this album Beheaded. I finally get it, and the fahgina CD is scratched and won't play on three or four tracks. Having said that, 'The Rest of the Day' is probably one of the most beautiful songs these tender ears have heard

WhatFunLifeWas suffers from fairly poor production, and the vocals are kind of buried in the mix, but I was (pleasantly) surprised with the engineering on this album. I forgot this guys name, but he did a good job.

Curious to hear any other suggestions/thoughts/complaints/praises about these guys.

So far it looks like everything but the Lepidoptera/Leper 10" is still available.

They finally posted the lyrics to Newness Ends on the New Year site. I never knew what he was singing on this part of 'Gasoline' and now, finally revealed:

"Lares and Penates" is another amazing song from Beheaded, and I pretty much love all of Transaction de Novo, apart from "Lepidoptera," which would be a great song for a lot of bands, but doesn't make it for me in comparison to the other songs here.

I'm going to go ahead and admit, though, that I'm apparently the only person for whom The New Year doesn't do it. I bought the debut, and...it's hard to say why, but in every way that Bedhead grabbed me, TNY doesn't. I've done the listen-and-relisten routine, going back to see if I can dig it this time, but each time it fails to latch. I must say that the lyrics are often giving me trouble here (see "Gasoline"); maybe it's that they stick out more now that the vocals are more present.

This is, of course, merely one asshole's opinion, and is in no way meant to diminish the joy that everyone else seems to be deriving from TNY.

maurice

i like the first new year record, but i love the second new year record

you may want to give it a try if the first did not grab you exactly

also, i like beheaded, love some of it (lares et penates in particular), but _transaction de novo_ is the best thing they did. _whatfun_ is pretty great but it doesn't pack that same punch, i do not think.

anyway, i think bedhead was thee band of the 90s, and the new year are a worthy successor, ESPECIALLY _the end is near_

For my money "The End is Near" is the best album I've heard all year. Maybe in the last couple of years, to be honest. And Mission of Burma put out and album this year! This is quite a feat, if you ask me.

It's a sleeper, too, as a friend of mine who bought it last summer, set it down to gather dust, and recently listened to it again just found out.

I wish it was about 8 songs longer. That's my only complaint.

Ike.

I thought it was one song too long, honestly. They should've made '18' the last song, it would've ended perfectly, with that extended part. Instead they close it with one of their weaker tracks- WTF??
