Several years ago, a friend of mine 'did time' for not being able to repay his various bank loans. As far as I can tell, he was taking out loans for furniture of the Ikea variety when he was about 16, him and the girlfriend. They just had to live together that way at that time, it seems.
The incident with the scooter/speed/police/alcohol took it's toll, but he bounced back with moving addresses about sixty times before the courts caught up with him.
The judge gave him the choice of 14 days in 'jail' or, quote 'get a job that pays more'.
So, 14 days paid holidays in an open prison and that was pretty much four years of debit card abuse wiped clean. Although he'll never be able to buy a house, car, swimming pool, big television, mailorder bride...
Andy's comments about the prison were sort of funny, the knee-high fence around the place, trying to sleep when all the others were in the common room cracking open light beers while watching pornos really loud...

Any comments, suggestions or rants can be directed to the Danish prison service, judicial system or welfare system.

It sounds more like he committed fraud than it sounds like he had a problem paying his bills.

Nope, debt payment problems. 14 days in an open prison wiped about 9000 dollars from his debts. 650 dollars a day.
It's so easy to get credit in this country from the age of sixteen, it's scary. I know at least five people that'll never get a mortgage (or possibly car financing), all under the age of twenty-five.
Maybe there should be a C/NC "Living beyond one's means".
