Arguably, anything is better than the original of THAT song.

NO
NO
NO.

WRONG.
WRONG.
WRONG.

As I have stated before, "D'ya Think I'm Sexy?" is an amazing song. It's Carmine Appice's finest moment. If I felt like I had a voice to sing with, you can bet your ass I'd do this at karaoke.

In fact, ply me with enough sake, and I might do it anyhow.

Please do not view this as a challenge.

Jourgensen and Co. turned the song into what Appice should of. An ultra-sleazy, noisy song.

Maybe because you like that stuff, but the subject matter is pretty damn disco, my friend.
Young guy gets young, sexually inexperienced girl home, she nervously has sex with him, they drink coffee to celebrate their new bond.

Now I don't know about you, but my guess is that lubes and porny stuff comes a lot later in most people's sexual odesseys.

RevCo trashed up the song to make fun of it. Fine, I don't even like the damn thing, but why on earth would an aggressive, trashy version of this song suit it's protagonists:
A nervous young man who hopes to get lucky and an ingenue.
Not the usual stuff of sleezy songs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for acts of Dadaism, but you have to paint the Mona Lisa before you draw a mustache on her. Therefore Rod missed no opportunity when he decided the make this a disco song. It had to be created to be destroyed.

-is this really a cover or just a song Prince wrote?

Others:

Cat Power doing "Swee Dee Dee"

TV on the Radio doing the YYY's "Modern Romance"

Rage Against the Machine - "Pistol Grip Pump"

Jeff Buckley - "Be Your Husband"

The Unicorns - "P.I.M.P."

I'm a fan of the song because it's a perfect parody. They took what Rod gave them, and exaggerated to hilarity.

Whatever floats your boat.

It doesn't have to suit anything but Jourgensen's sense of humor. The original song was tame, so it was "radio friendly". Revco knew that their version would never get airplay, so they went all out. It's just a joke.

I agree with you, but you realize Rod would have made the song dirtier if he could, right? He's not some pillar of serious songwriting that he wouldn't have fun with it.

I went through every post just to make sure I didn't miss it, but I've seen no mention of the greatest cover of all-time:

The Big Boys' "Hollywood Swinging"

You probably think there are better covers, and that's fine. I still think Arrested Development is coming back on the air. We're both wrong. Except for the part about "Hollywood Swinging" being the best cover of all-time. I'm right about that.
