Yes, they're Steely Dan and Spiro Gyra for a generation of upwardly mobile indie kids. Live they're as dull as their fans.
Still, on record they pull off some nice, wistful hooks that make for great makeout soundtracks.
So yes, they are crap because they're yacht rock for architecture students, but they are not crap because they are listenable.

3those early records have some mildy rockin' moments and great drumming, but the rest of their stuff is pretty limp. it doesn't help that sam prekop sounds like he's yawning on key.

9The Sea And Cake is a band that I'm mostly interested in when hearing them at a friend's, party etc. Overall, I enjoy their bent poppy sounds, but they are also one of those bands that I am fully satisfied with owning the one record I enjoy the most.
