Then they're doing a pretty shitty job at taking aim for a major label, eh?
My point is that their sound hasn't really changed in the four years i've been seeing them play. Maybe the production's gotten slicker, but i haven't noticed any progression towards "selling out" in their songwriting. I'm not saying i'd ever
ever want to be in a band like theirs, but i enjoy lots of bands that i'd never want to sound like personally. They're damn good at what they do, i enjoy it, if they wanna get famous, good luck to 'em, but it's never gonna happen for exactly the reason you described--that movement's passed 'em by in the mainstream already.
My main complaint is that all the bands that I come into contact with...nobody has any heart anymore...everything is too chaotic...the band no longer shines through the gloss...the gloss becomes the band.
There ARE bands now that have rebelled against this nearly 10 year old aesthetic, and I will bend over backwards for them.
I'm not quite following how "too chaotic" = "glossy," but i'm not going to argue that there aren't plenty of bands out there trying to gloss up to get noticed or appeal to as many people as they can. Obviously, they're out there. I'm sure tons of them are complete douchebags too, but from my many experiences dealing with the Box Social, or at least Nick specifically, i wouldn't rank them among the douchebags. I try to not let current trends dictate what i enjoy either, be it in a wholesale embracing OR rejecting manner.
