I mean, that's superhuman.
Either-Or: John Coltrane OR Miles Davis.
42An easy Coltrane for me as well.
Why? I can't explain it musically, I can't play it, I can't write it, I can't dance it, but the first time I heard OM I knew. I'm getting goose bumps as I type just feeling it. There, I put on the first album of Ascension super fucking loud, that's better. Fuck it, nobody else is in yet.
Live in Seattle, Live in Paris, Ascension, Kulu Se Mama, Meditations, Sun Ship, Newport, Major Works, Transition...
They put out at least 10 albums in 1965 alone, MOST of them masterpieces. It's like he knew he didn't have much time left. Those two takes at "Alabama" bring me to tears, but he cut the band off both times. Like "Fuck it, you guys just don't get it."
He was special. Maybe Miles was too, but I never felt it, not once, not even when JC was playing with him.

43It's Neil vs. Bob all over again.
Coltrane. I have a guilty feeling that I know Davis was better but my heart still makes me vote Coltrane.

I think that I like Betty Davis' best stuff more than jazz in general.
Although:
Bop Miles > Free Coltrane > Bop Coltrane > Electric Miles > Cool Miles.
Electric Miles Davis records are turds and diamonds all mashed together. On The Corner is still incredible to me.
