Muscle Of Love seemed like a contractual album, because at that point, Cooper and Ezrin had already agreed to ditch the band and create Alice Cooper the solo phenomenon via the success of Billion Dollar Babies and the colorful prop-filled live shows. So if Muscle sounds kinda eh, that's probably why.

Welcome To My Nightmare ranks in the Top 3 of Alice Cooper's catalogue in my opinion. Yeah, "Women Bleed" was slightly cheesy, but overall, a very solid album. It's too bad drugs and general running-out-of-steam caused a steady decline after that. (Although there are moments on the rehab album From The Inside that rival the Nightmare stuff.. the final song in particular, "Inmates (We're All Crazy)". This is during Alice's Beatles-revisition period, and also when he -- ugh -- covered "Because" for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - the movie)

I consider it essential. "Years Ago" and "Steven" have the same effect to me as "Second Coming" and "Ballad of Dwight Fry."

I've done some pretty embarrassing things in my life. In high school I had choreographed a routine to "Steven." It went as far as mimicking putting pennies on an unseen person's eyes. I was a weird kid, man.

I saw the Welcome to my Nightmare tour, the band was very cool, same band Lou Reed used for Rock 'n Roll Animal:
Steve Wagner, Dick Hunter, Prakash John and Whitey Glan.

Rock 'n Roll Animal is one of the all time great live albums. Live 1969 is even better, obviously completely different bands and styles though.

I really regret never seeing Alice live in his heyday.
