your ten favorite movies!!

170
There’s not 10 of them, but these are the movies I watch them most:

Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders)

Gas Food Lodging (Allison Anders)—a movie I loved as an adolescent and thought ten years later would make me cringe. On the contrary, totally fantastic, keenly observed, and so perfectly of its era and place.

Autumn Tale (Eric Rohmer)—the most even-handed, dignified movie about middle-aged women I’ve ever seen.

Band of Outsiders (Jean Luc Godard)—yeah, it’s been raped and pillaged but nothing could ever taint the unabashed joy of the bar room silliness or Anna Karina singing Jean Ferrat on the metro.

Nashville (Robert Altman)

The Last Picture Show (Peter Bogdanovich)

Kill Bill (Quentin Tarantino)—I absolutely love how Tarantino reinterpreted the avenging hero figure as a single mom who fights not for patrimony or glory but for custody of her daughter. The maternal instinct as the most powerful force on Earth = most awesome premise for a stylish, gory action film.

The Dreamlife of Angels (Erick Zonka)—Might as well have been titled How to Be a Human Being and Fucking Accept Yourself Already. Gorgeous, life changing.
