Yeah.

He was incredible. Played it like he hated it and loved it in equally great measures.

He was almost that good when I saw him w/Television. The solo thing was just super noodly. I really hated his rhythm section at the solo thing.

Richard lloyd was great when i saw him with R.F.T.T.

It was at the Disaster dome (pete thomas thang). Pere Ubu also played.
Great show. Dave had a PZM duct taped to his chest during the ubu set.

Television will never be crap to me. The reissues are great.

I could say what has been echoed. (and i will!)

Marquee Moon (the song) will always be superior to everything i am capable of doing. forever.
ChoCko is back in town!

I agree. When he has a good night, this sort of behavior is thrilling. In fact, it was seeing this very thing that made me feel OK about my own attitude towards playing.

Previous to this, I had felt like it was somehow wrong to hate playing the guitar, yet love it so much. To be frustrated by it yet have it feel so natural, to fight the instrument, but have it be a part of you. To be at one with yet at war with the universe.

It was a huge relief to realize I was not the only person to feel this way.*

* see what happens when I work too much? I get semi-metaphysical on your asses.
I make music/I also make pretty pictures

Well, at least Marquee Moon is. Don't know about the others.

Adventure is pretty good, but a little different. There are some classic songs on there like Glory and Foxhole.

NC, but why can't they get their fucking shit together? That band is plagued by too much ego and talent.

Wow....The two interviews with Lloyd were pretty mind-blowing in many ways.

I actually flew to New York, from Chicago, for the Central Park show. Knowing at least a month in advance that it would be Lloyd's last show(The reason I went) with the band, and, at least since the first of the month, that Richard was hospitalized. Hoping He'd recover for the show. After all, I went into the situation under the assumption that without Lloyd in Television after this one, this would in essence be Television's last show.

I learned from a journalist-type, who I overheard talking on a cell phone really loudly, that RL would not be playing, it was to be Jimmy Ripp. I'd seen him play with Tom Verlaine before and knew he was a decent guitarist, but nowhere near RL.

Sat through both opening bands, Dragons of Zynth (Maybe the worst band I've ever seen) and Thankfully got as far away from the stage due to rain to avoid the Apples in Stereo. Not my thing at all.

45 minutes later....

Television walked onstage started playing some swells and sorta "jammed" a bit, and went into the song 1880 or So(With a false start for Verlaine to tune..AGAIN!), and man it was sounding rough. They just did not sound together at all. Fred Smith seemed really lost, and Verlaine seemed pretty bummed from the start. But even when being pissy, you can sort of see that he has a sense of humor about it.

But, by the time they got to the fourth song, Venus, everything started to change. Verlaine was playing most all the notey lead/solo-type stuff, and Ripp sticking to rythm. I could have done without a five minute solo from Verlaine during almost every tune(Sometimes twice a song!), regardless of how much I enjoy his guitar playing.

They played a bunch of new stuff, which I'd heard already on some audience recordings I'd got my hands on. I like the new songs. They are very dark, and the rythm guitar interplay is really intersting.

Without Lloyd, I noticed that they'd started to get heavy into a rythm guitar trade off thing that gave the songs a new shape that I really enjoyed.

The near 20 minute version of Marquee Moon was really, really, REALLY fantastic. I wish I could have seen the Summerstage people losing their minds on the side of the stage.

Did anyone else seem to notice that Verlaine looked as though he was crying while leaving the stage? Maybe I was seeing things....

Television's records are not crap.

Haven't had the missfortune of seeing them play a bad show. So, as a live band, also not crap.

Hope Lloyd recovers.
