And after spending two years in a MFA program looking at about a dozen "rookie mistakes" per week, I can honestly say that 90% of the writers there are scribbling away at crap they would never read more than a page of if it didn't bear their own name.

Oy. Young writers in an academic program...say no more. Self-examination is not part of the curriculum. Masturbation masquerading as self-examination is practically the name of the game, however.

The ones who can purge that shit out of their system once they're out of the artificial, borderline-surreal world of academia will be the ones who begin to get real joy out of their craft.

But this is inexcusable bullshit.

Between that and The Pyramid - zom-zom, on behalf of the City of New York, we are sorry.

As reparation, should you find yourself in NYC, Vockins and I will take you to Luger's or Sammy's (or another equivalent place of your choosing) to help right this most egregious wrong.

OK, I shouldn't speak for Vockins, but I bet he's on board.

HA! oh boy i can't wait to see where this goes...

anyways, to put in my 2 cents in about sonic youth, i doubt they are the "most influential" band of the past twenty/ thirty years, and i think this starbucks deal is another one of their attempts to be accepted by the mainstream. They need to face the fact that they will never cross over for the kind of success, say, Nirvana had. I bet you it annoys them to no end that they will never have Nirvana's success.

No one should be surprised by this, they've been trying to make themselves "American Classics" since Dirty.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

That would be Dick Delicious and the Tasty Testicles. Theirs was a subtle, pervasive influence that has gone virtually undetected.

While I admire the self-chosen ascetic ethos of a Fugazi, I don't think much of people who feel that others HAVE to live a certain way to be cool. Being completely broke blows and I wouldn't want to be just to appease the sensibilities of some pimple faced loser. I really like the peace of mind knowing that if my car breaks down, I'm not up shit creek....totally awesome and hip, but up shit creek. Fuck that.
That's not entirely true.
