Good Morning, EA. I'm at work. I feel hungry...I had to sleep in my basement last night since my aunts from LaPorte, Indiana were staying in my room. I'm a little tired...and I haven't been getting the sleep that I might. I was going to go a bit stranger with my choices this time, but I didn't go quite as weird as I was going to...next time the uploads should be quite out of left field. Here we go again...let's just call this one the EA All-Star edition:


I was really obsessed with this record for a couple months in 2005. It's a record for you Steve V./'80s type geeks...actually, that's unfair, I don't know if Steve V. would like this record or not. This guy's vocals are understated and pretty...I really love them. I believe he was on the legendary Homestead label for a time. His name is Mark Edwards...otherwise known as My Dad Is Dead. He was originally a drummer, but then he branched out and started playing guitar...additionally, he got fucking good at guitar. He was Cleveland based for a long time (I think) but he now resides in Chapel Hill. This ambitious double record is long out of print. He's still making music, still occasionally tours. I think his newest record is called A Divided House. In his own words, he has now enjoyed "two decades of obscurity." That's just up your alley right? A fucking great record...recommended by allmusic.com (4.5 stars).

The following record happens to be a favorite of Mr. Bob Weston. It's not My Bloody Valentine...it's not Sonic Youth...but you will actually like it. Actually, joking aside, I like both of the preceeding groups...just not nearly as much as shitty, snooty, under-informed rock journalism would have me love it. In any case...this record is great. Really great. It shares similiarities with Unwound, too. After reading all this, how could you not feel compelled to download such an album?

Burun got the wheels turning in my head not too long ago when she described the following 1993 release as "a work of genius"...(I might be quoting her incorrectly...just look through the 124 pages of this thread...you'll find it!). It's not as detailed of a soundscape as Negativland would put together, but this is still an awesome listen. Clocker Bob would probably love this:

My mom and I used to sing along to this album together. My dad described this record as "being trapped in the car with a wild dog." Opinions on Joni Mitchell vary...I think she's phenomenal. It may be breezy...it may be very much of its time...but it's tough to compete with Joni. I sometimes wonder what Nina Nastasia's music would be like if her voice moved in a less reserved direction and more towards an extremely expressive Mitchell-type delivery. This record isn't as celebrated as Blue, but it still has a special place in my heart (and it's got some hits for the kiddies):

This record has nothing to do with the Steve Albini All-Stars (or burun...[just kidding!])...as Dr. Forrester once said on Mystery Science Theater 3000..."it has everything to do...with hurting." Actually, I guess it's passe to think that Michael Jackson is ironically cool now...but some of these songs are so much fucking fun. I'm actually terrified to put it up...I fear his legal goons will show up at my law office in 5 minutes...or that he will come to my house in order to personally molest me. Fuck it:

Now that I think about it...I think Steve has recorded someone in the Chicago area that in his words has "quite unabashedly" been covering Michael Jackson songs for years...I might be wrong...but it's hard for me to believe that Steve would strictly be one of his fans. I saw him talking about it on PBS Chicago (Channel 11) when I was just a wee lad...a program called "Wild Chicago"...so I guess we can relate that to the EA All-Star theme. I think you should humor me. Well...enjoy the records. I'll put up another batch before long...really weird ones next time...

I do like My Dad is Dead, because they fall under my only criteria for listening to music: recorded anywhere between January 1, 1980 and December 31, 1989. Post 1990 gets a bit iffy.

I don't have this album, but I do have For Richer For Poorer, which is a great record that AMG also seems to dig. I bought it used years and years ago because I had to hear a band with a name like that. The record is fucked with scratches and skips and all this other bad crap. So if you want to upload anymore My Dad is Dead, I'd really appreciate it...you fucking sexy cheesehead.

I'll trade you OJ's unreleased book about killing Nicole...if you want it.

*edit: By song #2, the shortsightedness of the mainstream music press becomes very apparent, since Interpol basically just rewrote the first two songs on this album over the course of a couple of years.

You know very well at this point that I am not a cheesehead. I have lived in the Chicago area for my entire life. I go to school in Madison, Wisconsin (The University of Wisconsin-Madison)...it's a good school...consistently ranked in the top 20 universities in the world ( http://www.wisc.edu )...usually just ahead of or just behind the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor ( http://www.umich.edu ). Wisconsin does not sit well with me...at all. I will not be going to school in Wisconsin for more than another year (I will be a senior). I have been in Chicagoland since May, working in a small law office...commuting into the city often. How many times do I have to explain to you that I am NOT from Wisconsin? Seven? Is this fucking clear yet?

So Minotaur, how do you like it up there in Wisconsin?
