If you are going to go all the way to Skokie can I also recommend "Bill's" on Asbury just north of Howard in Evanston? I've always thought of it as more of a burger place, but they were one of the two or three Chicago restaurants featured in that PBS hot dog documentary.

I would've suggested Snackville Junction as a southside stop, but it appears that they closed up after 60-some years on May 1.
