Currently working a project where the guy is running a fender jaguar through a fender super six and a fender quad reverb. It sounds amazing! he's got that razor sharp sonic youth/my bloody valentine clean tone, tons of attack!
The problem is that once i mic it, it lose something in the translation.
I've tried using two SM57s (1 on axis and other other off axis. both mics voiced) through an amek angela into a digi002 but it ends up sounding dull. I'm trying to achive that clean "in your face" sound while maintaining the true sound of the jaguar.
any suggestions?

That's yer problem right there.
You should be shooting for "warm and punchy," and settling for "in your face."

3i'm actually trying to get something that sounds similar to the guitars on Mew's "Glass Handed Kites" or Afghan Whigs' "Gentlemen"
does that help?
does that help?

4421's close, middle of the cone (edit: I mean mid-way between the center and edge of the speaker). one on each amp, panned stereo. Neumann u87 5 feet back in the middle (of the amps), panned center with a little compression 6db reduction at peak? Did I say that right? I have a Skibbe red stripe so that's what I'd use, but an la2a or Manly. Or whatever you have.

I am not a professional, but I have a hunch that this is a large part of your problem, right there....

6I really like recording my Fender amps with an AKG 414 set to omni and placed 1-3 feet back. Warning, a crappy room can turn up in the sound if the mic is too far back.

8If you're on a budget, the Sennheiser 906 (and the palidromic 609, which is cheaper) will do a much better job than your 57s.
They are about $180 and $120 respectively.
Up the size of your diaphram for starts.
