Yeah, they've got the ear from Blue Velvet on display there. Largest independently-owned movie rental store in the world. Powell's is the same way, only a bookstore. It takes up a whole city block (though Portland's city blocks are half the size of, say, Chicago's).

This is in Seattle, unless there is another one in Portland too. Could be.

oop! sure is in Seattle. I was thinking of the Towne Lounge, which has good shows from time to time.

there's also that place, Dunes, run by that insane guy. and Artistery does cheap all ages shows, if you're looking. nothing really piqued my interest, but I'd heard of a bunch of the bands on their calendar.

Where is Chips., anyway? You seem to know a lot about Portland.
Artistery's pretty cool, I saw Old Time Relijun there and it was actually way fun. Supposedly, they have a DIY recording studio there, too, but Aaron doesn't return e-mails.
Wonder Ballroom seems to get a fair amount of good shows. Slabtown seems to be on the up-and-up. They just reopened.

From what I understand, the PNW doesn't get a lot of monsoon-like downpours--their rainfall totals come largely from misty drizzles that last for a month solid.

Very little snow, however.

Chicago. I've actually never been to portland, but I used to be a booking agent, so I've sent lots of bands through there and dealt with many different venues and promoters. I like to keep tabs on the spots still, just out of habit.
