I bumped into a group of friends sitting outside a cafe this weekend. They all had iPhones and they let me touch and play with them.
Holy fucking awesome. That's all I have to say.
Also, they are unscratchable, aside from the little metal rim around the screen (even the back is unscathable).

iPhone
3I'm totally getting one, but only under these circumstances: i get to use my carrier and the price comes down.
other things that would be nice: more hard drive space, 5mpx camera (current one is 2).
also, osx for the iphone can't run flash. apparently, running flash in the safari browser eats battery life. it has a special processor to run quicktime video without eating the battery up, though. (not that i care about flash, but it would be nice to use it).

I bought one. It's not without its share of software design flaws (no mass deletion of e-mail, period & comma keys are on a sub-keyboard, cannot send multiple SMS at once), but it's pretty solid overall.
Visual Voicemail is sweet. No need to call in to check your messages, and you can pick which ones you listen to.

can't wait until they get iChat going on it. how they fuck did they miss that? my RAZR has IM on it...

8i saw a bunch of assholes lining up outside a local shop to pay $600 for a new phone on saturday. if you're in line for this shit, my best guess if you've already got an ipod and a cell phone that doubles as a space ship. i don't get it. what's so good about it? it costs as much as a blackface bassman for fuck's sake.
iPhone
9I agree that I will wait for it to mature a bit. But a lot of issues will be fixed with software in the short term. As far as a 5 meg camera do any cell phones have that? As well I think Kodak has a new thing going that may make the pictures of cell phones nicer without more megs

The iphone is so cool and I am glad that Apple has not put it out before it is ready for prime time, like they did with the Newton. The later Newtons were pretty amazing but they did not have a chance at their pricepoint and were made a joke.

10seriously, the iPhone - despite a few shortcomings - is pretty amazing. and it's first generation, it will only get improved. this is a significant piece of technology and i think anyone would feel that way when they have it in their hands, unless they're a Luddite. if that's your case, well then have fun with your abacus in the 21st century.
the best thing about it is the touch screen. computer interfaces will be changing in the near future. this started before the iPhone, but Apple is (yet again) the first company to come out with a completely new interface that will change computing for the rest of the world.
