Floating a Floor

so i'm a bit late on this, but i just built a soundproofed practice room last winter. it cost about 2k and reduces the sound of 2 cranked 100w halfstacks and a drummer to what sounds like someone listen to a boombox INSIDE the room from outside. from the next house over you could hear nothing. it is amazing how much sound is absorbed.

we built a full room within a room. it goes: outside wall - 2 layers of 1/4" sheetrock i believe - insulation - 6 inches of air - insulation - 2 layers of sheetrock again (maybe 1/2 inch i forget). the floor was floated on isolation pads from http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/ ... onpads.htm

here's our photo gallery - http://www.platesix.org/garage.asp

I was visiting this thread for a different reason and ran across your studio build. You've done a great job documenting it. For someone who's been doing the same thing, this was lots of fun to read. I know the expressions on your faces well.

But since you're done with construction and I'm not, the hell with you.
