Back in the day we would make fun of the sort of contrived rocker dude vocals of some of those northwest rock bands, as exemplified here, but good gravey, there is no denying the total bossitude of that Kim Thayil riff. I think he's from around here, too, if memory serves.

Not sure if this one was posted yet, but last night, at practice, I started playing "Public Image" by PiL on bass.
I marveled about how simple, yet cool and instantly recognizable it was.
A lot of people in the band are in their 20's, so I was surprised that 2 of them started saying
"Hello...hello..."
Two seconds into me playing it.

EA's young post-punk authority Second Edition clearly would have gotten it, but I'm just not used to 26 year old pop music lovers picking up stuff like that in record "name that tune" speed.

I consider myself such a rube...I mean, I've never listened to XTC or Wire's 154 so I can't be an authority on the subject...

...that said I would have recognized that bassline in a heartbeat.
