For some years now, I have been struggling to understand ATP / Barry Hogan. I guess he has a kind of monopoly, his shows and festivals usually sell out, and so he just does whatever the hell he wants. Good luck to him - however, I often have watched the undercard at ATPs, and sighed, and ruminated that at least five bands I know personally are about twenty times more interesting/fun than whichever noisy bunch of Jazzmaster-wielding American hippies were on at that particular moment.
I haven't been to ATP in a couple of years, because I thought it was getting samey, slightly self-important, very expensive, and there was a pretty constant attitude of put-up-or-shut-up to the audience. This new site, with the queuing to see popular bands? - sorry, but that's not my idea of a fun weekend out. Hey, if you don't mind putting up with it, that's cool. Not me.
Going back to Camber seems like a good move. Maybe the Pitchfork bill might end up being a load of completely bonkers crazy fun. Maybe it'll be fun again. I hope so.
