Bubba's is shit in my opinion. The crappy thing about Charlotte is that it's on the border of NC and SC but it doesn't get the best BBQ of either state. Whatever you do, don't eat anything labeled "Italian." Dressing, food, whatever.

There are a bunch of shitty biker bars just over the SC border past the Buster Boyd bridge on 49. I had a good time there last time I was there, but I had a feeling I got incredibly lucky.

I had an unassisted triple play in the church ball field near one of those shitty bars. That was pretty sweet.

I think the fireworks situation is still liberal. Check out the Mustang on 49 just past the biker bars. They have great stuff. You probably wouldn't want to bring that on a plane. I'm sure you've picked that up in your line of work.

I don't get searched

I'm thinking more like nature stuff, any good areas to hike around in where I won't get eaten or lost or buttfucked?

I wasted 10 years in Charlotte. Bubba's BBQ is OK, but the Old Hickory House on North Tryon Street is WAY better.

As others have posted here, Charlotte blows bigtime. It's either far too upscale for normal human beings, or total crackhouse ghetto. --And the wierd thing about that is the neighborhoods that look like fairly normal middle class suburbia are the ghetto, even though they don't look like it at have their fair share of crack dealers, drive by shootings, and playground shootings. --Most don't make the papers.

People have said that there is no edible Italian food in Charlotte, and they are nearly correct. Most of the Italian restaurants in Charlotte are actually 24 hour diners owned by Greeks. Why they serve Italian food, I have no idea, but they should stop, as it's godfuckingawful. You can get Italian food, but you will shell out some serious $$$ to do so in the upscale places that specialise on Regional Italian fare.

Also odd about this, is that gyros aside, and roast chicken aside, there are no real Greek restaurants to speak of, despite a large Greek population. That being said, the Mexican and Central American food there is quite edible. --I highly recommend Taquiria La Unica on Central Ave.

Also speaking of food, The Penguin Drive In has been mentioned, and I also highly recommend it. Try the Big Block burger and a side of Onion Rings. --The Penguin is also owned by the singer of the old Rap/Punk band Spite.

Charlotte really has no decent music scene to speak of, nobody really goes out to see local bands other than the regulars that frequent the clubs where bands play. --There is a lack of a truly cohesive music scene there.

Just before I left Charlotte, there was a local ordinance passed against 'Rave Parties', due to a somewhat problematic and quite cheesy Rave Scene there. --The wording of the ordinance doesn't really spell out what exactly a 'Rave' is, therefore a loud rock show could concievably be targeted by authorities and shut down because it's a 'Rave Party' in the eyes of the law.

A better place to move to in NC would be Raleigh. You have close proximity to Chapel Hill / Carrboro with cheaper rents/ property and some pretty cool stuff also happens in Raleigh as well.

I'll join the chorus-
Charlotte sucks.

Get some BBQ. The women look like they are made of plastic, and won't talk to you unless you are a banker.
If you have a lot of time, rent a car and drive 2.5 hours to Asheville, which is the anti-suck.

As stated, Charlotte aspires to be like Atlanta. That should tell you all you need to know. Yes, there is a city that is working towards Atlantaness.

Stay in your hotel and watch some free HBO.

I don't understand all of this Asheville worship.
