During coverage on Thursday, CNN said something about how the Bush admin had allocated over $200 Billion over six years for infrastructure improvements, stuff just along these lines.
Then they mentioned the "bridge to nowhere", which I vaguely remember hearing about some time ago, in Alaska or somewhere?
Over $200 BILLION.
For whatever it's worth, CNN news reported yesterday, and is still reporting at this moment, that there are only 4 people confirmed dead.
cnn.com wrote:Four people were confirmed dead after the disaster. They were identified as Sherry Lou Engebretsen, 60, of Shoreview, Minnesota; Julia Blackhawk, 32, of Savage, Minnesota; Patrick Holmes, 36, of Mounds View, Minnesota; and Artemio Trinidad-Mena, 29, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Officials said at least 79 people were injured.
The only bridge I can readily think of in Chicago that's getting worked on right now is the one on North Ave, just a bit west of Home Depot. But in that case, they removed the old bridge and put up a new temporary bridge right next to it while (I assume) they're working to build a new permanent bridge in its place.
With all the bridges in Chicago, I hope they're keeping up as well as they need to. And obviously hopefully all heavily-trafficked bridges in the US are being maintained properly. And in other countries, too. Just bridges in general, all of them.
