I would agree with this. A very distinctive guitar player - has anyone else in punk ever had that bizarre surf-punk/spaghetti-western kind of feel?

A friend of mine who isn't a guitar player said once that early Jesus Lizard/Duane Denison guitar work reminded him of East Bay Ray. Although I didn't hear it then, I do now. Good call. However, I doubt Duane would admit it.

It's not quite the same, but Billy Zoom would reference spy/surf/spaghetti- western lines.

I guess that means I'm entering Billy Zoom into the sweepstakes here.
You call me a hater like that's a bad thing

Does anyone like the early guitarwork in Killing Joke as much as I do? I think that guy (who's name escapes me at the moment) was incredible, in a pretty minimalist way. This was reinforced when I saw them in the 90's, even though their material went to shit.

I like that sort of approach. When someone can pull off an interesting song, and you see their hand bolted to one position on the fretboard, well, that's something.

Geordie Walker. An excellent choice. I got to see him play up close and couldn't figure it out. I was later told by someone he tunes his guitar in fourths. Insane.

Plus, he played an ES 295, kind of an ES 175 painted gold w/ P-90 pickups. Off the map cool.

nels cline, he's so controlled, and can bring out some fantastic sounds, never sounds noodley to me.

john congleton, by far the most tense sounding guitar tone I've ever heard. watching him perform is even a greater treat.

seth cohen, I love his style

gentry densley, very controlled also, does something differen't in every project he does

jeff mueller

I guess this should go to the PJ Harvey thread, but I'm listening to Rid of Me for the first time - listening to PJ Harvey for the first time also - and it is astounding. Especially "Ecstasy," which is playing right now and has some of the best fucking slide guitar I've heard in ages. Why can't we hear more guitar like that nowadays? I adore slide guitar...

Her rhythm section is pretty fucking draggy, though...could Rob Ellis PICK UP THE FUCKING PACE every once in a while? No matter, still rocks really viciously. And slowly.

I want her guitar tone, especially distorted. It's so great. Did she ever use a Telecaster? (I want to know cause that's my guitar.)
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.
