I am ashamed to admit that I don't know that novel, but I can tell you that Yes, Buddha did have a blue/black tongue.

EDIT:: Buddha was a chow and.... Apparently, Stupid was an Akita- the Japanese version of same.



Very, very similar breeds. Mine was not a dog bought from a breeder. He was more of a junkyard dog so he had a long and healthy life, except for some eye issues later on.

I am resisting the impulse to start telling endless long-winded stories about him here...
