4This "Chocolate Rain" song is actually a pretty interesting and 'poetic' (albeit not terribly sophisticated) song about blackness, and the ways that blackness is misunderstood and exploited in American life. The fact that nobody gets it just proves the point he is making in the song.
An obvious precedent for his "OMG so bizarre!" deep-voiced singing style is Paul Robeson. Not that Tay Zonday is anywhere near Robeson as a singer.
