Derek wrote:This "Chocolate Rain" song is actually a pretty interesting and 'poetic' (albeit not terribly sophisticated) song about blackness, and the ways that blackness is misunderstood and exploited in American life. The fact that nobody gets it just proves the point he is making in the song.

I'm not trying to say that this guy is any kind of a genius, but it's obvious that he is totally going over the heads of the "OMG WTF so random!111" dipshits that have made him a "star."
I read the lyrics a while ago. I'm white as the day is long, and I could have written an equally poignant and biting commentary on the hardships of being black in America. It's a poorly written song no matter what color whoever wrote it is.
Plus, even if he was singing "We Shall Overcome" in front of a blank wall, wearing headphones, and moving away from the mic to breathe, I'd still laugh at it and forward it to my friends. He's fucking WEIRD. He looks like Steve Reich meets Steve Urkel, and sounds like James Earl Jones.
Have you seen his other music videos? At the end of those, he gives this lingering smile... It's like looking into the face of a madman.
And back to the lyrics, what the fuck is "chocolate rain" anyway. If he's repeating it that much, it ought to mean something...
EDIT: Sorry for responding like this in the tech room. I think garageband effects are the key to "that Tay Zonday sound"
