I like Roxy Music for much the same reason I like Shriekback: female backup singers that are musical at the upper limits of human hearing.

32They were all about the irony. The dark, slimey, damaged soul hidden beneath the gloss verneered surface.
The David Lynches of glam.
Not crap.

33Steve's linking Roxy Music to Steely Dan - crap.
A mere construct to catapult the propodanda. Wrong headed at best; arbitrary at worst.

Is this your neologism? I like it!
I've listened to Roxy Music a fair amount having had their strengths impressed upon me by friends, but they leave me cold. I like elements of their songs, there are some interesting sounds and structures in them, and they do rock in places, but I am not interested in the schtick put forward via Ferry, if it is a schtick. It's a desperate hollowness to me; the desperation in not having anything to say, perhaps!
Tim's excellent post above might get me to give them another go, though.
I cannot get into Bowie for similar personal views, someone else who I feel I should give another go.

Just a typo, but it rather works now, doesn't it.

37Since this has been resurrected, I feel compelled to note that I have only been listening to about five discrete things in the last year or two, and one of them is the Roxy Music catalog.
It's even better than I ever thought, and I always thought it was very, very good.

38A couple of very good tunes that were not crap... they escape me now, but I'm sure they will come back to me eventually. Or not.

40I like that record cover with the two German chicks in their panties. It caused an uproar, didn't it?
