My friend just asked this question. Can someone here answer it?

which album of theirs had liner notes that included explanations about how they created some of the sounds they used? in particular, i'm trying to track down the piece in which they recorded someone snapping a bundle of twigs. blixa bargeld's dog was also in the background whining.

I can't believe I missed this one, not crap. All asshole rockstar behavior aside, I'm a fan of their albums, from the early 80's cacophony, to the lounge act they've become (although I didn't get into their massive amount of tour releases, seems pointless).

i think ende neu and silence is sexy both had odd things in the credits like "giant bass spring" and "cigarette."

I saw EN a few times in the early and mid 80s - in the crowd or behind the board zom was there I'm sure. I seem to remember all main stage shows. R.O.P. was prolly there too.

I was amazed at how the recordings were reproduced live. At on point a shopping cart made it's way on to the stage, and I thought, "Here comes the cheeze." Well, they played the fuck out of that cart, and I took everything they did seriously after that - until they started taking themselves too seriously.

It was short lived, but this band - she was good.

I gotta vote NC even though the majority of their recorded output is total garbage. OT - fucking wonderful. Halber Mensch and Stratgien Gegen Architek are really good too. Anything after that gives me the most serious douche chills.

So, yeah, whatever. not crap.

Was that the show where the had the jet engine turbine on stage? That was an amazing show. I think it was the tour for when Silence Is Sexy came out.

No sir. No jet engine turbine on stage. There was, however, a wide range of weird, interesting, and inexplicable instruments on stage. Blixa looked gorgeous; they were all wearing suits, barefooted, congenial, great show. They're never touring the US again due to costs, practicalities, etc., etc. Great fucking show.

They must have done a tour for Ende Neue then. I think I missed them that time around.

When they played the turbine when I saw them, the turbine was spinning and they were striking it with drumsticks, mallets, and they used drum brushes as well. When they used the brushes, it made a sound kind of like chimes. They did have a bunch of other unconventional equipment they used as instruments as well. One was a series of plastic pipes which were also struck with mallets. I don't remember what the others were.

I have never understood the fascination with music like this.

Sure they had jet engine turbines and fire on stage. Woo hoo.

It wasn't "safe" but I guess G.G. Allin wasn't either. Being not "safe" is no gurantee that your music is anything wonderful.

CRAP with no waffles.

But I have nothing against people who enjoy stuff like this. I have just never been moved by it. There are worse things people could like I suppose.

Some of my favourite shows ever. Noisy, melodic, fun to look at, excellent sounds, and Blixa.
