Massive Doomsday Wagers On NY and Europe Options

i was at my local tonight speaking at a fast talking wall street investment banker/stock broker dude and he offered up some logic.

bascially: although he was not familiar with the actual contract, he said the financial times reporter basically got taken by a profiteering investment group.

if they want the market to tank, and they bet $2B on it tanking, at a time when people are frightened and scared for their lives (and assets), following closely on the heels of Chertoff's irresonsible "gut feeling"comment... people who can assemble a $2B group of investors are going to be well connected, have finance reporters in their pockets, etc.

instead of bin laden betting or some whatever-the- fuck western currency fucking china might be pushing for (despite the fact that we've (and when i say we i mean america and a handful of other countries that don't include the UK, a group allegedly formed after that decimating tsunami to prevent future catastrophes) run massive military exercises throught one of their major trade routes recently), he says it's based on a terrifying sub prime admission coming to terms either tomorrow or next week while rich fucks and brokers are vacationing in the hamptons this weekend, and an expected fed cut that might actually go untoched on sept. 18. also, that the investor(s) will make money if the market ticks down, that the option doesn't require massive depletions for them to make their money.

sorry to get all double parenthetical with this shit but it's an unpopular perspective relative to this paranoid as fuck forum that's worth considering.

It also might just be somebody who has been looking at historical trends for market crashes. Previous major market crashes have been preceded by 'tremors' experienced in August.

Edited - BBC Article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6970287.stm

"Students of stock market history are feeling nervous. A summer of tremors has in the past been followed by an autumn crash.

Don't go on holiday in September."
