Some very local and local-ish beers that are very good, all ones I have tried and get my seal of approval, for I am a connaisseur, innit.
The vernacular language of beer round these parts (The East Midlands, UK) is pale ale. Dry, crisp, light in colour, very hoppy, not too heavy. Strength somewhere between 3.8 - 5%, normally.
Some good beers from Nottingham first:
Castle Rock Elsie Mo
A firm favourite with forum user GJHardwick, I believe. It's yummy. Pity about the horrible label. (Hang on a sec, all of these labels are horrible)
Castle Rock Harvest Pale
A proper session beer, 3.8%, easy drinking. Summer afternoon type affair. Personally I prefer elsie Mo, but this is a good 'un all the same.
Nottingham Brewery Rock Bitter
Good, flavoursome yet easy drinking bitter. Good brewery.
Nottingham Brewery Legend
Really nice, hoppy, crisp ale. Damn good example of the local style. Swiggable indeed.
Nottingham Brewery EPA
Love it, could drink it all day.
From a little further afield, but still pretty much the same region and style, I would definitely recommend the following, occasionally available bottled:
Oakham JHB
The king of session beers.
Oakham White Dwarf
Crazy English wheat beer! mmmm-hmmmmm.
Oakham Bishop's Farewell
Ah, a good pint of Bish. Used to sell it in the pub I worked in. One of my all time favourites.
Also awesome, from Sheffield:
And I cannot recommend
Newby Wyke beers from South Lincolnshire highly enough either. Can't find any images on line though.
Can you tell that I'm very bored at work?
