I keep forgetting this isn't drag and drop point and click mixing, I've never done analog recording so I've got no clue about the actual time and effort involved. You guys took two days to mix?

there's a great interview in the new tape-op with hank shocklee. his descriptions of the way early hip-hop records were made may surprise you in how much of a live performance they were.

you probably can say the same with the early electronic / dance records, with just some drum machines, synths and sequencers.

i am pretty sure that both of phillip roebuck's records from electrical were recorded/mixed in B direct to 2 track.

My last two bands recorded live, with the exception of over-dub fuck-ups. I don't know if I could do tracking.

the approach was the same for both recordings. Drums, bass and guitar were tracked together, then a guitar overdub was added, then vocal overdub. thanks for the compliment on the song.

i am happy with my recording but there is just something about the work steve did with us that is just plain not there in my recording. i'm sure it couldn't have anything to do with experience, it has to be gear...LOL i hope we are able to go back to steve eventually. i really enjoyed it. steve if you're listening, how about a freebie...

My band just recorded by tracking. I have yet to do live recording in an actual studio, but can say that I would rather record live. When you're in a room by yourself and your amp is up to 11, it's hard to hear with the headphones.
