Yesterday one of the Scottish red-tops had a front page saying something like 'DNA found in Madeline's room..Arrest within 24 hours'.

It's difficult to imagine that it's her mum's DNA that everyone's getting so excited about.

There's still loads of Maddy posters up around Glasgow.

I really hope that this story doesn't turn this way. We all know the child is dead, and that's a terrible thing - but this seems somehow like a particularly evil twist.

This is really strange. The Guardian has actually amended their article over the morning. Initially they stressed that, under Portuguese law, Kate McCann was classified as 'arguida' or person of interest in the investigation. It seems to be a legal classification that allows a suspect to be fully cleared at later date, so it might be a reaction to last weeks Portuguese newspaper claims that the McCann's had something to do with their own daughter's disappearance. Then again, it all coincides with the analysis of the blood specks and DNA. Hopefully, there'll be some clarity over this. Why is Mr. McCann not being given the same status, as I know he was questioned separately yesterday?

Edit: I heard Kate McCann in an in-depth interview on Radio 4 and I'd be astonished if she was actually a suspect, given her the responses.

Just to echo the same sentiments - it's taking an unaccountably strange twist.

I'm puzzled about Madeleine's blood being found in a car hired 25 days after she went missing though, would a child who had been dead for 4 weeks still bleed? What's going on here? Someone give me the CSI skinny.

Couldn't the blood have been transfered once already dry?

For example, if you 'done a murder' and stashed your knife (what you done a murder with), wouldn't the blooded knife be capable of shedding dried blood for period-X after the murder?

Apparently they're going to be bringing Gerry McCann in for a further 10 hours questioning today, by the end of which he could will be classified as an "arguido" - they'd effectively be co-suspects.
