22They seem to like it, i think my dad gets it more than my mum as he's a big music lover.

23I would have to vote somewhere between 'meh' and 'no'.
I don't make a habit of playing any of my own stuff to my folks but the last time (xmas eve) they stumbled in whilst I was playing it for my younger brother. I got the usual Mum response, ooh I like it, is that you playing the Tuba (no Tuba on record...or in fact any brass), she then continues to talk over the tracks to me about mundane shit, how are the cats?, have you hoovered the ceiling etc..

24My dad (who's 67) likes the music but doesn't like the singing even though it's really tuneful and all. He's got instrumental mixes of most of it and plays it in the car. I haven't told the singer.

25My mom is supportive but never expressed any desire to hear the music. My Dad would like it if I could do wailing solos to impress his brothers because their sons play like that.
My sister did come to a gig though. Before we went on we were all sat against the back wall of the room. Then when I got up to play I kept wondering why she didnt move down the front. After the gig I went upto her and she looked a little shellshocked. She said "I didnt know it was gonna be that loud."
I dont think she really got past the volume enough to analyse the actual songs.

Ha! That sounds like me, just thirty nine years younger.

27My parents like my band's music.
A lot. It can be frustrating at times because they want to talk about the music a lot, but I'll gladly talk to them about it since they helped me out to get me started.
I'm new here, incidentally. I live in Scotland and play in a band called Nine Miles High.

28I got into playing music through my Dad. I've played with him on any number of occasions over the years, and I've gotten him into recording in the last few years. He'll call me up to get advice on ProTools, or mics, or compressors. It's kind of cool, because we have something to talk about. I don't think he necessarily understands or digs everything I do, but he's always been supportive and open-minded. My Mom has also been supportive and open-minded, although I don't think she really gets my music at all. She used to like it when I would sit down at the piano or guitar and play Beatles tunes, but I'm pretty sure that she hasn't really understood anything I've done since I was about 13. Her standard comment is that it reminds her of Yoko Ono's art. I once made some remark that Yoko Ono's art isn't all that wierd, and that the Fluxus movement is history at this point, but she didn't get it.

30I talked to my mom the other day and she told me she had just found one of my CDs while cleaning up. "So, you've never heard it then, right" says I. "No, but I'm clearing a path to the stereo today", she replies.
I gave her the CD three years ago.
