In this Spin article, I'm trying to work out if Thurston having a dig here at Steve, saying he earns the most money out of all the punk peers?...

One thing you seem to share with your old-school punk peers Ian Mackaye and Steve Albini and Mike Watt is a real work ethic. Do you see younger bands today with that same drive, or was that a product of the '80s underground?
I think we all influenced each other that way, but I always wondered if that work ethic would have been necessary if we had been able to cash in. None of us get rich off what we're doing. The original do-it-yourself model of punk rock -- make your own record, your own fanzine -- really made an impression, and as a teenager, it was much cooler than the all-expenses-paid rock-star trip, which, in a way, made us like a gang. To me, that stuff is not too dissimilar from songwriting. Of all the people you mentioned, I would think Albini makes the most revenue because his [production] work is more industry-based, but I certainly have the desire not to work. To me, making records and making books is its own creative measure. But I would certainly love something to happen that brings a windfall, so all I would have to do is designate others to do the work. I would love that, but I don't foresee it happening.

me neither. he's just pointing out that steve makes more money via recording than you could being in single a non-mainsream band, or at least that's my interpretation of it.

ps evol and sister are and always will be two of my favourite albums EVA.
new stuff is ok but it doesn't warrent more than a few listens. that said I have recently returned to sonic nurse after a few years break and although it's not as consistant as their earlier works it has some great songs on it!

Johnny Rotten and Co. returned to the studio recently to re-record the group's infamous anti-government punk rant "Anarchy in the U.K." for Neversoft's upcoming Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Activision announced the Sex Pistol's re-recording today, as the publisher claims it was "unable to locate the original multi-tracks."

"Re-recording them--what a stress you put on us but we rose to the occasion I think...admirably!" said John "Johnny Rotten" Lydon in the announcement. "A bit of anarchy in a video game is alright by me."

I dunno, I kinda have to give a break to Sonic Youth. You know, just for the fact that they made some great records that totally changed my perspective on music and still put out good stuff now and then. They have a kid, so they're probably catering to that a little bit. Honestly, they probably could use the money and they're having fun doing it, so what the hell? Starbucks, though? Eh. That's McCartney's terrain.l
