To date I have had 3 guitars returned, i guess out of 170 that isnt so bad. These things do sound different from one another as Tim stated. The pickups in holmes guitar were from back when Rockhaus was winding all the pickups. Steves guitar has the last bridge pickup wound by them and the neck was wound by me, so everything pre number 75 for the most part were wound by them.

Also these are styled after a 500, and i tried to put everything i loved from the TB500s in these, but it is not a Travis Bean and never was meant to be. To hope for the same sound is fine, to expect it is pushing it. There have been people swear they sound just like them and others say they sound nothing like them. All the TB500s I have ever played all sound very different for the most part. This is why im changing up all the wooden bodies as well as names, to put a line in the sand between these and Beans.

That being said, holmes guitar is very early one. Could it be fucked up? theres a chance as back then i was fairly new to all this(i believe the guitar is in the 40s) I do know when it left it was right to me, that doesnt mean it was right to him.

i doubt the pickups are the problem, it could be, but it would be best for me to go back through it. At this point i just dont know until I see it. If there is a problem I want to do whatever i can to make it right.

hey kevin - if you read through this thread ive never dissed you as a person or your communication with me EVER. i know full well that you are a stand up guy - i am too - and i know full well that you just want to make the best guitars in the world and for people to be happy with 'em. i think its a great thing you do with EGC. Just wanted to confirm that. however as im sure you can imagine, im not a millionare. i am a scaffolder. postage costs to send the thing, then custom hassles getting back, are all major bummers for me. i knew this when i bought it. however there are issues with the guitar that in my opinion do not come done to personal taste, and seem like fuck ups.

the following are things i could probably get fixed in the uk, but you can imagine i am kind of pissed that i have too. the nut is faulty, it chokes the strings and unless an obscenely thick string gauge is used, the guitar does not sustain any open notes. the action is already high before such silly strings. the pick ups are not responsive to harmonics, all highs are lost, making for murky sounds. the sound is good but you can tell that alot of it is getting lost. its like having the tone pots constantly set at half (i am hoping that faulty pots are the problem as i dont like changing factory designs and changing pick ups). it was foolish of me to expect a bean tone and i realise that, but i was expecting competent and forceful definition in the tone. also the finish requires nothing more than a finger pressed very lightly into it to dent it deeply, but i dont really give a fuck because i dont trust guitars that arent dented. I am not trying to bitch (please dont think im such a stuped arsehole that i havent realised that it looks that way) and i would have stopped posting in this fucking thread ages ago had i not been attacked by every motherfucker on here, and had their incorrect opinions on my situation dumped upon me throughout virtually every page every time i posted an innocent and truthful opinion - however having such a hardcore fan following is something you should be proud of though, as it shows youve done alot of amazing work.

but you aren't going to be able to say a bad word about it without me countering if otherwise.

right, listen to me pal - read through this whole thread in front of you. every page. i have never said one single bad word about kevin to anyone, not on this board, not any of my guitar playing friends (all of whom ive recommended electricals), not to no one. get off my ass motherfucker. the guy has been awesome when it comes to customer service - why do you always fall back on that though? whats that got to do with my actual enjoyment/opinion of the guitar? its like a little cocksucker circle. do you think ive never had a guitar? do you think i dont know how virtually every other guitar manufacturer are shit on customer service in comparison with egc? i have constantly stated that you get an AMAZING deal with electrical. thats fucking snide is it? bitching rights revoked? dont ever tell me to do shit you cunt. and, mr syntax, i have taken it to a shop to get looked, admittidly only two and they have both been useless.

right ive said my peace now i hope - read through the thread ive never said anything that deserved the bullshit i got over this.

Go and get it set up! £45 tops. I'd expect to pay that to get a £10,000 Gibson set up to my personal tastes if I could afford one. A competent guitar repairer can tweak the pots and the nut to perfection for you.

I wouldn't think that would affect the sound, so I'm assuming it's something else. Perhaps something different in the pickups? Don't know, but I believe that holmes may have a legitimite concern. That being said, both of my 500s sound totally awesome, just different. One has a more biting treble sound (#63), while the other has a more mid-range growl to it (#47). I don't know which sound is the "correct" sound, or the sound Kevin was going for.

just a guess, but is the one without the tone knob the treblier one?

Yes, it is.

my understanding is that every little piece of wire between a pickup and the jack will subtract treble.

so there's your answer. less in the way between the pickup and the jack equals more treble.
