Band: Mogwai

People are divided when it comes to the question "is Mogwai CRAP or NOT?". I'll admit that they're boring, but when I put on a Mogwai record, I try to forget that I'm listening to anything at all... and thats where this band is enjoyable.

My Father, My King is awesome. So is Young Team. Hell, so is Rock Action. I don't really plan on aquiring any more Mogwai than that.

What the fuck?!?!

Maybe that's why he's shit - cos he's got a dodgy ticker.

(Actually I never thought he was such a bad drummer, not great like, but alright. But people on here have made a lot of his alleged inadequacy.)

He went to bed about a decade ago, or whenever he sold his soul to the bankers and the elites.

Fuck them very much.

CRAP.

:WF: zero.

NC 100%.

They blew my brain on several occasions in my youth (and their youth as well). They also proved to be really great human beings too, something I naively expected everyone in bands I liked would prove to be and has since been proved to very much not be the case.
Their music always interests me because it seems the antithesis of a lot of the music people like on places like this forum in that it is usually really simple and no offence meant to Martin but the drums are never insanely complex and they rarely fuck with time changes. This seems to provoke this whole thing where people in bands who may have similar tastes as Mogwai get really uppity that a band that doesn't slave over things like they do can be successful. They draw the most horrendous criticism and it's usually from people in bands who feel hard done by somehow.
Fact is, in the UK at any rate, a lot of folks who post on this board would not be making the music they make were it not for Mogwai. Even if it was just a Mogwai record that got them into something new and changed the direction of their musical tastes.

Aside from this, they're fantastic humans. Humans who when offered the chance to play a large televised corporate event, got the band Bob Tilton to open. Or who's help pretty much gave my friend's record label the kickstart and credibility it needed. Or who helped out a lot of folks I know in slightly personal ways that don't need detailing but are generous and amazing.
In fact, much like the aforementioned Mr Rossdale.
