J.D. Drew in September 2007:
.342/.454/.618 (1.072) (12 XBH (4 HR))
yeah he decided to become hot the last month. As Bill Simmons mentioned, sox fans are no longer ready to slit their wrists every time he comes up to bat. We are mildly less annoyed w/ his $70mil paycheck and all he has to do is get 2-3 clutch hits in the playoffs and we'll all be sucking his dick like we did w/ Bellhorn after his 1 clutch hit against the yanks
I've just watched Drew strike out so many times in late inning/important at bats that its tough to see his sept numbers clearly. I keep seeing him passively watching strike 3 sail by and then remembering his interview about how he isnt going to change anything about his approach. If he doesnt like a pitch, he aint swinging... end of story.
Meanwhile I've watched Big Papi and Manny golf balls out of the dirt for clutch RBIs. They not only swung at pitches they normally didnt like, the shocked the fuck out of everyone doing it, hitting impossible to hit pitches just because they are so bad ass.
I guess its Drew's lack of emotion that makes him a sox fan punching bag. He just plays like he doesnt care and I HATE IT when sports writers talked up his "pretty swing" for so long during his initial signing.
Having a 'sweet swing' really isn't all that valuable.
I hope I am wrong about Drew, and I hope Arod goes 0 for in the playoffs, its just hard to imagine Drew will suddenly become clutch and passionate and Arod will suddenly choke and no longer see the ball well.
