I love the Rush. I love the Big Shellac. How could I have never seen this thread until today?

Whoever mentioned the Slint had it right. You take someone who enjoys the random meanderings of "La Villa Strangiato" or "Cygnus X-1", there's no reason he (and I'm sure it's a he) won't enjoy Spiderland.

Or Don Caballero's For Respect for that matter. Damon Che told me once he'd never heard any Rush before, but I think he might have made a little fib.

The Ayn Rand fixation is pretty freshman lit. I'm suprised some people never get over that shit (to be fair, I'm suprised that people never get over their Marxism fixation either).

I hear less of Rush in Slint than Can. Don Caballero is more Krautrock than Canukrock too. I respect Rush for their musicianship but I can't listen to it.

Yup.

Nothing like judging a band based on its drumset.

Are you saying it's inaccurate?

Oh no, I'm agreeing. I just find it amusing that of the picture used in the "Google Image Search method of assessing a band" is Neil Peart's ridiculous drum kit. Jamming econo this ain't.

Though I'm sure finding a picture of the actual band would lead to the same conclusion.

What's ridiculous about it? It fits the band, it fits what they do. It's an accurate reflection, but not a bad one.

I also appreciate that Geddy, suffering from gear envy because of Neil's kit and Alex's stacks of cabinets, fills up his side of the stage with chicken rotisseries. In tours past, it's been washing machines and vending machines.
