I like me some nipponese rock. My new favorite band happens to be Japanese. They are called NISENNENMONDAI and they frickin' RULE. Circular, hypnotic, post punk, nip/kraut, tightly woven mess of beauty. Check music:

buy the gorgeous double vinyl reissue set of both of their first 2 discs from righteous online retailer:

92I listen to Ohbijou quite often recently. It really reminded me of SOMETHING, but I couldn't figure what it was, it was driving me nuts. Moment of revelation came yesterday: His Name is Alive.

93John George Peppers wrote:Yura Yura Teikoku. That roughly translates into, "The Imperial Sway." THey are real good psychedelic fuzzed out rock band. They frequently jam and are the best unknown Japanese band by a country mile.

I dig it!
Has anyone mentioned Electric Eel Shock? Those guys are a blast and put on a great show. They have a lot of fun.
I think the opening 3 or 4 lines of this song say it all:

Electric Eel Shock is such a fun Japanese metal/riff rock band. For the uninitiated I highly recommend Go USA! over the Beat Me album. Not that Beat Me is bad, but not nearly as inspired.
I would love to see this band live. It has to be fun as fuck. I am still kicking myself for not driving to Milwaukee when they played the Cactus Club a year or so ago.

95Hey, once again:
mySpace is good for something.
I love Meat Eaters, and I wish they had more recorded music.

Several years ago, I saw them at a tiny club in NC with my buddies in RPG. Unbelievably fun show. There were only about 50 people there for their set, but that's a pretty good crowd in such a small space. They went at it like their lives depended on it and it was just incredibly infectious. It is impossible to watch those guys do their thing and not smile.
"Sex Drugs and E-Mail" was a real highlight.

Think Ruins, except with even more Magma damage.
Koenji Hyakkei are awesome. There's also an element of brain-damaged Andrew Lloyd-Webber in there, with the modulated vocals and such.
