Some friends of mine set up a gmail account for a similar reason to this, but found that the gmail system actually pays some attention to who is logged on and when, and the accounts were momentarily disabled at seemingly-random times. I think it is just as simple as "two people cannot be logged on simultaneously" but the possibility exists that this could get shut down. So use with care.

I too have a handful of spare gmail invites without destination, so if anyone still wants one after all the other people with spare invites have given them out I will be happy to be next in line. PM the thing to the guy.
