Because I hate boring music?

Let me think about it some more, I know you are being dickish, but I have to meditate on it some more.

Hey! I'm drunk. What do you expect?

I think I'll join you, I know that the other half of my band made a big show of putting some fancy expensive imported beers into the fridge at the practice space and bragging about how they will be extra delicious because while he drinks them I'll be drinking shitty icehouse and ha ha ha and whatnot...big mistake, that shit is mine
I'm going to get trashed, be back later

The problem with reunions like these is that people are inclined to have expectations. People get all juiced up about what it's gonna be like.

I'm lucky that I'm a robot, and I'm not falling all over myself dreaming up how amazing their reunion show(s) will be. I love Polvo. I love their songwriting, and the way they played together as a group of people. Like if you took multiple jigsaw puzzles and put them together into one picture, sometimes making them fit, sometimes finding pieces that just fell right together. Love their sounds. How it often sounds wrong, but in just the right way. I think Tutku used the word "broken", like their songs are broken. But in just the right way.

I'm going to do what I can to see them live. I've never seen them live. I've seen these new YouTube videos, which are pretty bad in comparison to a couple of live DVDs I have as far as their energy and presence goes. But I don't really care if they look bored while they're playing. I've been told a bunch of times that I look bored while I'm playing. And guess what? I'm not. Not at all, most of the time. I don't think I've ever been bored playing live. For me, if I look bored, it's because I'm concentrating on playing the music, and listening to what we're doing, and not on being a performer. Sometimes I try and move around and stuff, because I know people seem to like that, but it's not easy for me to do. So maybe I'm extra-sympathetic.

But as far as the problem with reunions, I think it's that people have some expectation. They think it should be amazing, because they love the music that they've been listening to on records for the past 10 or 15 years or whatever. 20 or 30 years in some cases. If you have an expectation that a live show is gonna live up a decade or more of your idealization of it, you're probably set for a letdown.

I know people talked like this about Slint. Same things. They're boring, they look bored, they're playing the music too much like the record, blah blah blah. Seeing Slint live actually changed my opinion of the song Washer, which I really used to dislike, a lot. Seeing it live made me really like it. A lot. For me, seeing a reunited Slint the three times I have has been great. Because I like their music. I like to hear it, and I like to see them making it. End of story.

As far as the idea that bands shouldn't reunite, I get that, the whole "let it retain that mystery and idealization that I put into it for 10 or 20 years". I get it. I think it's r-tarded, but I get it. For me, I'm glad Polvo made the music they did. I think their output includes many of the best songs I've ever heard. If they want to get back together and play these songs, I say fuck yeah. I hope it's great. I hope they have fun. I hope they make their thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, in a world where shitbags like Britney Spears become millionaires "making music" that doesn't have a millionth of the merit of Polvo's, in my eyes. Anybody who wants to cry foul for a band like them reuniting, go ahead. While you're at it, go eat a dead rat. The fact that you have no input into whether or not a band like this reunites is a great, great thing. THANK GOD that your opinion is worth absolutely nothing on the matter.

MBV, I like maybe three of the songs off Loveless. Great work. Total masterpieces. The rest of what I've heard from them, I can take it or leave it. I have no desire to see them play live. I barely even listen to the few songs of theirs that I think are great.

Please, people, don't have an expectation of your beloved band. It's not fair to them, and it doesn't help you. Getting all freaked out about how amazing it's gonna be is only drastically increasing your chances of being let down.

Obviously my vote is for Polvo.
