Traynor Voicemaster head YVM-1

1
I recently picked up one of these heads along with 2 Traynor YSC-2 Column speaker cabinets (4 12's in each.) $100 for the whole package. Though it's supposed to be a PA head, i've heard good things about them being used for guitar.

I noticed that Electrical Audio has one in their collection of equipment, so i was looking to see if anyone knew anything about these heads. ie: hidden potential, possible mods, on what records they've been used in the past.

Thanks.

i don't know how significant the differences are, but i have a YVM6 and four YSC3's that i picked up on ebay for under $100.

they are not the same as what you're talking about, so i don't know how useful this will be.

i run a feed from my mixer to the YVM6 for both the live vocals and playback when recording band practices. i don't have any real monitors set up at my practice space.

the vocals sound great, and the built-in reverb is nice to have, sounds good.

for music playback, it's *decent* in the guitar range. the speakers can't handle the bass so well, or rather, if the bass tone control is not kept really low, the speakers pop with the kick drum. this is, i would expect, more about the speakers than the amp. the tone controls on the YVM6 aren't the most flexible, yours looks better.

if your YVM1 is anything like what i would interpolate to if imagining a cross between my YBA1A and YVM6, i would buy it for that price, no question. if the circuit design is similar enough, you could probably do some of the mods that are out there for the YBA1A. there's schematics all over the place. like here. looks mostly similar, though maybe that's just cause it was drawn in the same house.

a nice traynor website you may already know about would be Velvet Black. man does he love him some traynor!
