Well they do have ones big enough to make a whole liter of coffee. They cost around $40-50.

But yeah, the cleanup is their #1 drawback. My kitchen sink has one of those water blaster hose things which makes it easier. I've found that the most important thing is to clean out all the grounds right after making the coffee so it doesn't set up in there.

The second drawback to the press is the problem of having hot water on hand all the time. I normally use a stovetop teapot or a saucepan to heat water, but lately I've been looking into one of these things:

The Japanese Zojirushi brand (the one with the elephant logo) seems to be the best for these hot water pots.

I just bought one of these and a nice conical burr grinder.

I'm excited. It should be waiting for me when I get home.

I disagree. The premature cup is always stronger than the rest of the pot in my experience.

If you will drink this kind of dribble-brew office coffee, you will clearly be satisfied with anything. If you cant wait for the pot to finish, just piss in an ashtray and drink that.

If you're not getting enough umphh from your french press, just keep adding more coffee to it, try 1/4 grounds, 3/4 water for starters. You tend to go through coffee pretty quickly this way, but it is worth it. Also make sure it's coarse ground.

I asked for something similar one Christmas (I think it was something that boiled a small pot), and my grandparents got me a coffee maker. Okay, thanks, but it's not exactly what I wanted....

Dude, I don't know what kind of blind taste test you did, but in my experience, the interrupted cup of coffee tastes like shit. It's also not as hot.

That being said, I've been know to engage in such an interruption from time to time.
