Intersound IVP

The cheapest I saw on Ebay since August was $167. There was one in canada where the reserve wasn't met but bidding ended at $117. If one sold for $50 I would be surprised if "Intersound" was anywhere in the listing.

I bought one off of craigslist last week for $150 and it was worth every penny. Be patient, keep looking, don't over pay, you will find one.

It's funny, after owning one for years, while finding it an interesting piece of gear, I don't find that it does any one specific thing particularly well. Plus, the rack-mount format is pretty clumsy for guitar usage, which is the application in which most people around here use it.

I'm hoping the person on the forum who has mine is enjoying it, because I never got an inspiring sound out of it for personal usage.

Bob Weir used an IVP too, so how some the people on the board aren't looking for Modulus graphite guitars?

The world is full of weirdo, unknown, unique sounding gear. It just seems that the Electrical board puts a lot of weight into three oddball pieces of gear much more than the rest of the musician world, and those three pieces are used by the guy who runs the board.

It's not bad, it just makes me chuckle inside.

I like the clean channel on it quite a bit and it's the only "stomp box" esque distortion I ever really cared for. The distortion is a load of fun on various sources for various purposes and I find the clean channel to be just as useful ....and it looks great too. Two inputs, two insert points, 3 outs, 4 band sweepable EQ, Another EQ, GAIn, Master....it's a fucking laboratory! The IVP has a lot going for it beyond it's "Steve Appeal". I bought mine before I ever really heard any of Steves music, its not just fanfare it really is a cool piece of gear. Remember Dead heads buy these things up too.

I'm pretty sure the Tube channel had a transformer that saturates.

I used the one I borrowed with Bass... I Almost like it as much as the TS-50B. But it doesn't have that "broken glass" breakup that the Traynor has.


I used it as a bass preamp. The clean sound was too clean. The distortion sound was lacking in definition for me. I pretty much just had a Sansamp GT-2 left on all the time.

When I DI'd out of it, with guitar, I could get a close approximation to the Albini sound. This is the only unit I've played, though. I certainly home there's nothing wrong with it. I did use it for years for bass and keys, until I finally built my tube preamp.

I agree, i wouldn't like it if it didn't sound great. The distortion effect sounds better than any pedal I have ever played through and the parametrtic EQ can create some extremely interesting filters.

While it's a nice ideal to try to acquire gear by digging through the goodwill or music shop and find something collecting dust that is unique that looks interesting and try it out AND then find out it sounds great, but it's not exactly realistic for everyone to be able to do that and take risks on "unique" equipment that could potentially be garbage with little or no resale value. I mean, isn't the main reason we visit this board to help us make educated decisions about gear and recording? Some of that information may work for some of us and some of it won't.

What other weirdo pieces of equipment do you recommend that the EA forum users aren't aware of yet?
