I like him. Yeah, he's one of the most annoying popular musical personalities still walking the earth, but I can't help liking him. I enjoy that he lacks the false modesty that Lennon exuded: Lennon was hung up on the whole "We were just a band" thing and Paul was happy to say "We were the FUCKING BEATLES". I think that is awesome.

McCartney still does some weird shit: The Fireman and his work with Super Furry Animals are two projects that immediately come to mind. His solo singles (more so in the late '70s/early '80s) would often have offbeat (for Paul McCartney) non-album tracks.

All you McCartney fans should check out this book.

ive never understood the vitriol. it seems some are just looking for reasons not to like the guy, which is fine, but rather non-material i think. as others have said, you look at his personal life, apparently a good husband and dad. ive actually never heard him say a bad word about anybody, in print or any other media. maybe that's the problem, he's not jaded enough. well big fucking deal my friends.

great bassist. im always surprised upon listening to beatles stuff how intricate and melodic those bass parts are. i actually have a theory that the main reason why so many bands who want to sound like the beatles don't, is the bass playing. this is probably a good thing.

i doubt the results of such a poll would vary differently from this one...maybe, just maybe, the people who love mr. mccartney and voted "not crap" would vote "crap" for the haters...and the haters, not hating themselves, would vote "not crap"...seems a little redundant...but that's just my prediction...

as for looking for reasons not to like the guy, i don't really find that necessary...my ears bleed from the countless reasons i'm subjected to HEARING...

So true... When some one says a band sounds like the Beatles it almost always means there are vocal harmonies. What the?! Why is that Beatle-esq? To me, McCartney's bass leads most of the material between Rubber Soul and Let it Be. It really seems like he thought of his bass as a brass section, or low strings. His melodies and countermelodies are always so strong and bring a lot to the song, not just low end.

I think McCartney comes off as being stuck-up with a super ego. I guess that bums out a lot of people. I think his work speaks for itself though, and that includes a portion of his post-Beatles stuff. 'McCartney' and 'Ram' are both great records.

His shoes are off. That means that he's dead or something, right?
