there's this incredible bassline on Face of Collapse, real quiet, dark and slinky, sounds like some kind of chromatic crawl, with the vocalist doing these deep gut screams of "GET BACK IN THE HOUSE!"
not crap.
forget the name of the song though.

12If someone could post some Sicbay in the sendspace thread, I'd be forever grateful.

15Hey.
Face Of Collapse and Recuerda are still in print on Skin Graft Records.
I have more or less retired from the music-making.

16The bass line from the Killmen's 'Agitator' is awesome, especially as the other strings sit out and the drums volley the single kick and snare strikes to max effect. One of my favorite songs from the era.
All of the Skin Graft Killmen stuff is great, so I whole heartedly rec 'Recuerda' and 'Face of Collapse.'
Distorted Pony did hail from LA. First releases (Punishment Room, an EP, and possible a 7") came out on Bomp! and Instant Winner came out on Trance Syndicate. I think they spanned '87 or '88 until '93 or so. The band called it kaput and David U, the guitar player and singer, moved to Austin where he was in the sludgy Sweet Pea (one full length on Trance, as well) for a brief time before starting Switchhitter, which lasted until the summer of '04 (about 7 years). That band plyed the Gang of Four/Birthday Party trip and had alot of bass players over the years. Switchhitter put out a full length, a 7", some comp tracks, an EP, and a David U action doll, all of which were more or less self-released. David now has a three piece in Austin called Red X Red M. The next show is on the 26th of this month with Stnnng and locals Oh, Beast.
