Tomorrow I have to finish up (read: start) Christmas shopping. So far I know what to get for mom, already shipped off Dad's, and will wing it for my cousin. Big problem is... children.

Two kids age 11 (girl) and 8 (boy) are staying at my parents' house for the holidays and I have no idea what to get them. They are both Korean (my cousin's kids) and their English is very so-so. All I know is that the boy likes cars, but my mom says he's kinda picky about them. Books, movies and things with too much English are out since it would seem sort of "learn the language sucka." Should I just get teddy bears or something? I don't really know anything about kids or what they like. I know some of you are parents, maybe you can help me out here. I need stuff I can buy at a regular mall or store. Any ideas?

And the boy is easy. Nerf.

I think 11 is too old for dolls.

maybe a pretty but relatively inexpensive bracelet or necklace or something of the like--preferably something not too girly in case she's more of a tomboy.

i'm sure bath & body works sells glittery, nice-smelling gift looking things that might possibly work too.

good luck.

Are these kids staying in the States, or are they just visiting from Korea?

Perhaps some clothing, nice tennis shoes, for the boy, perhaps a jacket with some kind of sports theme? Team apparel of some sort?

One year I recorded a kids album on 4 track for my 7 year old cousin. It was about 5 or 6 songs about a kid that gets attacked by bugs and dragged into the core of the earth because the queen of the hive wanted to be his girl friend. He escapes with a can of raid and a bug zapper lantern at the end of a broom handle. It took about 8 hours to create from scratch. My shit hole southern Baptist Aunt wouldn't let me give it to him because she said it was too violent and a un-Christian gift. I told her she was bat shit crazy and she made some comment about how I was just being cheep and didn't want to spend money on a gift.

From that day forward, I have never given her kids shit and I tell them it is because their mother will not let me.

nerf for the boy, yeah. great stuff, nerf.

don't buy make-up for the girl, that's lame and sending the wrong message. ask your cousin. i'm a guy and i have no idea what an 11 yr old girl would like.

Bath & Body is vile. *shudder*

Have you considered purchasing some music for them? iTunes gift certificates or some such?
