New football season 2008-2009
1252Thanks DRC for the bibliography; that should be enough to have some late-night reading thru the end of the season.
As it turns out, I've ended up with a Plymouth Argyle bookmark on the computer, and have been checking in there from tie to time (lost yesterday; too bad). My paternal grandparents were both from Cornwall, and Plymouth seemed like a reasonable choice to follow, even if it's not the Premiership. Any historical horrors committed there that would make them unworthy of my affections?
Happy Sunday

The long-running investigation into football corruption took a new twist tonight when four more men were arrested by fraud squad detectives. Most notable among those detained was Los Alpacas manager Tommy Dski.
A source said that the decision to detain Mr. Dski was made after he turned out a side that featured a midfield containing Gerrard, Ronaldo, and Fabregas, as well as a frontline which featured both Tevez and Adebayor. Mr. Dski was also seen having dinner with Sam Allardyce and an unidentified "agent" who later left with a brown paper bag under his arm.
"Very suspicious" said the source, "Very suspicious."
Well, it has taken me 22 transfers to get the £104,600,000 it has cost me to build this team. I paid a lot of points for most of those transfers. Thankfully Adebayor and Benjani aren't going to the African Nations Cup next year because neither of their teams qualified. I have one or two changes I want to make in the new year but aside from that I'm finally pretty pleased with my team. It's nice to be top at Xmas. Boxing day might well change all that though.
Incidentally, Simmo (under the alias Patrick McGoohan) has Fabregas, Ronaldo, Gerrard and Petrov as his midfield as well as Adebayor and Tevez. His defence isn't scoring many points though, so I guess it evens things out a bit.

1254Well, both Ronaldo and Tevez are quality. But I refuse to have Manchester United players in my team. So, that may be my downfall.

1255I'm conflicted by my hatred of Manchester United and my desire to win everything ever.

I too refuse to have Scum PLC players.
I've not checked my team, or the league, for 2 weeks.
Also: FUCK SAKE HEARTS.

1257Ever seen a Sunderland player hit a lion?

A bit unnecssary from Deano.
Also, it probably was a goal, and Jones dived for our penalty. Good to see Chops get one though.

1258On a whim, I changed my captain from Gerrard to Ronaldo, who single-handedly bagged me 30 points! Up to third now - not bead considering I was 19th after three weeks. Watch out, Tommy and Sleepkid!

1259Simmo, why is Rosenior in your team every week when he doesn't play?
Collins of Sunderland plays every week and he's the same cost. Mears of Derby plays quite often too and he's also £3.9 million. They only ever get one or two points a week but that adds up when you're chasing for the leaders.

1260He's usually on my sub's bench... he was appearing more regularly for fulham last season but since moving to reading he's been pretty much a non-starter. However, Nosworthy at Sunderland was my man at the back for a long and successful time, until he went out with a hamstring... I was waiting for him to come back. However, if I can get rid of Rosenior for someone who does play without losing too many points, I may well do it....
